The Dental Practice Education and Research Unit (DPERU) forms part of the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH). The unit was established to meet the information needs of dentists, dental therapists and dental hygienists and promote the provision of preventive services.

  • Colgate Special Topic No. 7  — Disabilities — dental care for people with disabilities — released Jan/Feb 2012

People with developmental disabilities and acquired disabilities are now living longer and are more frequently seen in the community than before. Previously a paediatric concern, people with special needs have higher levels of oral disease and have barriers to accessing dental care. This topic includes guidelines for integrating people with disabilities into general dental practice.

Anyone can attempt the Colgate Continuing Professional Development Online Program.
A new quiz format has been released in February 2012. You will be able to attempt each quiz ONE TIME ONLY. PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR ANSWERS BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR QUIZ RESPONSE.

A new quiz has been added and all existing quizzes have been updated into a new and exciting user-friendly format.

The program will enable you to accrue 1 CPD point for each online quiz.

Tooth sensitivity affects up to 30% of people and represents almost 10% of the patient load of private dentists in Australia. This information sheet attempts to address the issues and clarify the steps of differential diagnosis of diseases with similar pain characteristics before confirming a diagnosis of dentine hypersensitivity.

    • Early detection saves lives. Oral cancer is a potentially fatal disease that affects many thousands of people each year worldwide. The dental health professional is the first line of defence in the detecting and monitoring of oral cancer. It is essential for dental professionals to recognise both the early signs of cancerous lesions and the patients most at risk. This topic includes guidelines on dental care during and after oral cancer treatment.
